Traditionally characterized by close-knit relationships, face-to-face interactions, and strong communal values, rural societies are increasingly influenced by digital media, mobile communication, and online platforms. This transformation brings both opportunities and challenges. On one hand, digital technology enhances access to information, strengthens economic networks, and facilitates broader social connectivity beyond geographical boundaries. On the other hand, it alters traditional forms of solidarity, weakens direct social interaction, and introduces new forms of social stratification based on digital literacy and access. This study examines the transformation of social relations in rural communities through a contemporary sociological perspective, emphasizing concepts such as social change, network society, digital divide, and cultural adaptation. Using a qualitative sociological approach, the research explores how digitalization influences social cohesion, community participation, and local cultural values in rural settings. The findings indicate that rural communities experience a hybrid social pattern, where traditional social norms coexist and interact with digitally mediated relationships. This study contributes to sociological discourse by highlighting the dynamic negotiation between tradition and modernity in rural social life in the digital era.
Roni Susanto, Syahrudin Syahrudin Copyright (c) 2025 Jurnal Humaniora dan Ilmu Sosial https://ojs.stai-ibnurusyd.ac.id/index.php/alufuq/article/view/19 Sun, 21 Dec 2025 00:00:00 +0000 Preserving Local Culture in the Midst of Globalization: An Anthropological Study of Community Identity https://ojs.stai-ibnurusyd.ac.id/index.php/alufuq/article/view/14
Globalization has significantly influenced social structures, lifestyles, and cultural expressions within local communities. While it offers opportunities for economic growth and intercultural exchange, globalization also poses serious challenges to the sustainability of local cultures and community identities. This study aims to explore how local communities preserve their cultural values, traditions, and collective identity amid the pressures of global cultural homogenization. Using an anthropological approach, this research employs qualitative methods, including participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, to examine cultural practices, symbols, and social mechanisms that function as tools of cultural resilience. The findings reveal that local communities actively negotiate global influences by adapting external elements without losing their core cultural values. Cultural preservation is sustained through traditional rituals, local wisdom, intergenerational knowledge transmission, and community-based institutions. Moreover, community identity is continuously reconstructed as a dynamic process that integrates tradition and modernity. This study contributes to anthropological discourse by highlighting the role of local agency in maintaining cultural continuity and reinforcing community identity in the era of globalization.
Roni Susanto, Mariyatul Kiftiyah Copyright (c) 2025 Jurnal Humaniora dan Ilmu Sosial https://ojs.stai-ibnurusyd.ac.id/index.php/alufuq/article/view/14 Sun, 21 Dec 2025 00:00:00 +0000 Language as Social Identity: A Sociolinguistic Analysis in a Multilingual Society https://ojs.stai-ibnurusyd.ac.id/index.php/alufuq/article/view/20
Language functions not only as a medium of communication but also as a powerful marker of social identity, reflecting individuals’ cultural backgrounds, social affiliations, and ideological orientations. In multilingual societies, the use of language becomes increasingly complex, as speakers continuously negotiate identity through language choice, code-switching, and linguistic variation. This study aims to analyze the role of language in constructing and expressing social identity within a multilingual social context. Using a sociolinguistic approach, the research examines how factors such as ethnicity, social class, education, and power relations influence language practices in everyday interactions. Data are collected through observations, in-depth interviews, and discourse analysis involving speakers from diverse linguistic backgrounds. The findings indicate that language choice serves as a strategic tool for inclusion and exclusion, solidarity and distinction, as well as resistance and adaptation in multicultural settings. Moreover, multilingual speakers often employ linguistic hybridity to navigate social boundaries and assert multiple identities simultaneously. This study contributes to sociolinguistic scholarship by highlighting the dynamic relationship between language and social identity in multilingual societies and underscores the importance of linguistic awareness in fostering social cohesion and cultural understanding.
Dwi Noviatul Zahra , Joko Supriyanto Copyright (c) 2025 Jurnal Humaniora dan Ilmu Sosial https://ojs.stai-ibnurusyd.ac.id/index.php/alufuq/article/view/20 Mon, 22 Dec 2025 00:00:00 +0000 Dynamics of Social Solidarity in Multicultural Societies: A Sociological Study https://ojs.stai-ibnurusyd.ac.id/index.php/alufuq/article/view/15
This study examines the dynamics of social solidarity in multicultural societies from a sociological perspective. Multicultural societies are characterized by ethnic, religious, cultural, and social diversity, which can function both as social capital and as a potential source of social tension. Using a qualitative sociological approach, this study analyzes how social solidarity is constructed, maintained, and challenged within diverse communities. The findings reveal that social solidarity in multicultural societies is shaped by shared values, inclusive social norms, intergroup communication, and participatory community engagement. However, structural inequality, social prejudice, and weak institutional support often hinder the development of sustainable solidarity. The study highlights the importance of inclusive policies, community-based initiatives, and intercultural dialogue in strengthening social cohesion. This research contributes to sociological discourse by providing a deeper understanding of the mechanisms that foster social solidarity amid diversity and offers practical implications for promoting harmonious coexistence in multicultural contexts.

Fitria Puji Atma Dewi Copyright (c) 2025 Jurnal Humaniora dan Ilmu Sosial https://ojs.stai-ibnurusyd.ac.id/index.php/alufuq/article/view/15 Sat, 20 Dec 2025 00:00:00 +0000
